| | | | | | Fedmas Assay Office Sdn. Bhd. Fedmas Assay Office Sdn Bhd was intentionally set up in 1987 to support gold manufacturers belonging to the Federation of Goldsmiths and Jewellers’ Association of Malaysia, which are scattered throughout the country. With the establishment of such an assay office, exporters were now in a better position to plan and schedule their production. As a consequence, the jewellery industry in Malaysia expanded. Gold retailers also benefited indirectly from the establishment of an assay office in that they can now verify, in confidence, the purity of their gold articles on display in their stores; or even before any sale is transacted between retailers and their wholesalers or suppliers. To further enhance the confidence of both manufactures and retailers, Fedmas applied for ISO/IEC 17025 (formerly ISO/IEC Guide 25) accreditation in 1989. The accreditation scheme then was started about a year earlier in Malaysia under SIRIM (now as Standard Malaysia) and as a result, Fedmas was the fourth laboratory in Malaysia to be granted certification. Today, there are three assay offices belonging to the Federation of Goldsmiths and Jewellers’ Association of Malaysia. These are all independently managed; Penang main office caters for the northern region, whilst KL and JB branches cater for the central and southern regions respectively. Any retailer or manufacturer interested in becoming a member of Fedmas may do so simply by completing an on-line application form in member login and submitting it. Terms & conditions apply and one must be a member of the goldsmiths' association | | |
